Street Fighter Extended Universe: Slam Masters

There are 3 games in the Slam Master series, as seen below:  

1) Saturday Night Slam Masters — the first game of the series.  

2) Muscle Bomber Duo: Ultimate Team Battle — an updated version of the first game.  

3) Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters II — the sequel to the first game and the final installment of the series.

Story

Professional wrestling became very popular in the early 1980s, and many wrestling groups started all over the world. These groups were rivals. To solve this problem, 8 groups joined to create the Capcom Professional Wrestling Association (CPWA), led by Victor Ortega, the CPWA's first champion.  

One day, Ortega suddenly disappeared. He was very important to the sport, and his sudden loss caused the CPWA to fall into confusion and chaos. The Blood Professional Wrestling Association (BPWA), a secret underground wrestling group, saw this chance and began to act.  

With the theme "Fighters of Muscle Bomber = Destiny," the CPWA leaders decided to hold a world tour called the “Crash Carnival” to find the new king of the CPWA. The gong to choose the new “Master of Muscle Bomber” is sounded…  

Street Fighter Extended Universe: Rival Schools

In this final essay on the Street Fighter extended universe, I’ll cover the Rival Schools series, which has a close connection to the main Street Fighter storyline, alongside Final Fight. I should also mention other games like Captain Commando, Strider, and Slam Masters, which share the same universe but have lore that’s more distant from the core Street Fighter story. The Slam Masters series ties more closely to Final Fight, as it features Haggar as a wrestler before he became mayor. Strider and Captain Commando, on the other hand, take place in a futuristic or dystopian timeline, with little connection to the main events of Street Fighter.

Okay, let’s start with Rival Schools. The series consists of only three games: Rival Schools: United by Fate (1997), the first game in the series; Nekketsu Seisyun Nikki 2 (1999), an updated version of the original featuring new characters; and Project Justice (2000), the sequel to the first game and the final installment in the series.

Street Fighter Extended Universe: Final Fight

This is a single essay covering the entire Final Fight series. It will start with the story of the main game trilogy, then move on to the background stories of the characters. Some of these were already introduced in the Street Fighter essay, but here you’ll get to read their original stories from Final Fight.

Some background leading up to the events of the first game: Bushinryu’s origins are said to date back roughly 550 years to the 14th century AD. In 1976, a 9-year-old Cody began practicing and developing his own street fighting style, blending boxing with his black-belt level skills in martial arts like karate. 

By 1983, Mike Haggar, then 40 years old, was still defending his title as a professional wrestler. Three years later, in 1986, Haggar retired from wrestling and was elected Mayor of Metro City, vowing to clean up the streets—even if it meant getting his own hands dirty.

Street Fighter – Part 7: Street Fighter 6 – A New Era (Final Part)

This is the final part of the essay series covering the main story of the Street Fighter timeline. Street Fighter 6, the latest release, has been a massive success both commercially and critically. It’s currently the most popular fighting game, dominating tournaments with the largest player base in the genre. Before diving into the main story, I’d like to address a few things about the timeline:

Street Fighter - Part 6: Street Fighter III and the Secret Society

Street Fighter 3 takes place after the fall of Shadaloo in SF5, with events occurring between 1995 and 1997. The game begins with a new tournament in 1997, six years after the second world tournament (Street Fighter 2) in 1991. Street Fighter 3 has three editions: the base game, "Street Fighter 3: New Generation," "Street Fighter 3: Second Impact," and "Street Fighter 3: Third Strike." Second Impact is an upgraded version of the base game, telling the same story but with more characters, while Third Strike is a direct sequel to New Generation/Second Impact that concludes the storyline of Street Fighter 3. As always, I’ll start with the base game and add all the characters from start to finish in the later editions.

Street Fighter Lore — Part 5: Street Fighter V and the Conclusion of the Shadaloo Saga

Alright, this marks the concluding segment of the ongoing Street Fighter saga, which began with Street Fighter 1. The story progresses through the Alpha Series, then Street Fighter 2, followed by 4, and now reaches its conclusion with Street Fighter 5. This entire narrative wraps up the Shadaloo saga. Afterward, we move "back" to Street Fighter 3, which chronologically takes place after the events of Street Fighter 5. Street Fighter 3 serves as a sort of reboot, introducing entirely new villains and protagonists.

Street Fighter Lore - Part 4: Street Fighter IV, The Rise of S.I.N.

As I mentioned earlier, the chronological order of the Street Fighter universe starts with Street Fighter 1, followed by Alpha, then 2. After that, the series jumps to Street Fighter IV and concludes the Shadaloo Saga with the fifth entry, Street Fighter V. Then, the timeline goes back to Street Fighter 3, and finally wraps up the franchise with Street Fighter 6, which covers the current events.

Street Fighter Lore – Part 3: Street Fighter II

Street Fighter 2 is one of the most iconic games of all time, dominating arcades in the 1990s and shaping the fighting genre as we know it today. The events of SF2 occur in 1991, two years after Alpha 3. Bison now has a leaner body and organizes the second World Tournament to entice Ryu to use his body as a host.

Street Fighter Lore - Part 2: The events of the Alpha Series and the timeline leading into Street Fighter 2

In the previous essay, I covered the events of Street Fighter 1, which had a straightforward plot centered on Ryu winning the tournament. After that, Capcom decided to flesh out the lore between Street Fighter 1 and 2 by releasing the spin-off Alpha series. This series expands the timeline, adds major characters, and introduces Shadaloo, the main villains of the Street Fighter universe. The Alpha series includes three games: Alpha 1, Alpha 2, and Alpha 3. Street Fighter Alpha 2 is essentially a remake of Alpha 1, while Alpha 3 serves as a direct sequel to the first two. Since Alpha 2 builds on Alpha 1 by enriching the lore and expanding the story, I’ll focus solely on Alpha 2 and its sequel, Alpha 3, as these two games essentially cover the full lore of the Alpha timeline.

 In this series of essays, I will attempt to cover all of the events in the Street Fighter universe, including story events from the first to the last game, as well as all spin-off events and background stories for all of the characters. In addition, I will discuss the franchise's expanded universe, which includes spin-off games such as Final Fight and Rival Schools.
